§ 02 — What we pour

The first thing
anyone sees.

A driveway is the handshake — the first thing a buyer, an appraiser, or your in-laws notice when they pull up. Done right, it sets the tone for the whole house. Done wrong, it cracks in three winters and gets re-poured at the worst possible time.

We treat driveways the way we treat foundations, because that's effectively what they are for the next thirty years of daily vehicle loading. Two-thirds of the work happens before any mud shows up: scrape the organic layer, lay and compact a graded gravel base, wet it in, set forms to a laser-verified grade. Then we pour. Then we cut joints within 24 hours so the slab cracks where we tell it to — not where the truck wants to spit.

What we install

  • Estate drives, 200–1,200 ft — long residential approach drives, often with turnarounds, motor courts, or detached-shop aprons. Our most common Belle Meade / Brentwood / Leiper's Fork pour.
  • Standard residential driveways — 16–24 ft wide, single or double-car, off-street parking and approach.
  • Motor courts & turnarounds — wide-radius pours with decorative or stamped center medallions. Coordinated with landscape architect for drainage.
  • Shop & garage aprons — heavy-load transitions from driveway into the slab; thicker reinforcement, 6" minimum thickness.
  • Sidewalks, walkways & pool decks — connected flatwork that ties the driveway into the rest of the property.
  • Tear-out & replace — when an existing drive is past patching, we break it out, fix what failed underneath, and pour back clean.

§ 05 — Process

From measure-up
to first vehicle on the slab.

Four steps for a residential driveway, start to finish. Bigger estate drives stretch days 3 and 4 across a longer crew window — but the sequence stays the same.

Site walk & quote

We measure the run, check drainage, flag the utilities, and send a fixed-price quote inside 48 hours. No surprises later.

Base prep & forms

Excavator scrapes the topsoil, we lay and compact a graded gravel base, wet it in, and set forms to a laser-verified crown so water sheds clean.

Pour & finish

Mixer trucks roll at 7 AM. Screed, bull-float, edge, broom (or stamp / smooth / aggregate, per spec). Crew sizes scale with yardage.

Joint & cure

Control joints saw-cut within 24 hours, curing compound applied, forms pulled clean. Light vehicle on day 7, full load at day 28.

§ 07 — Common questions

Driveway
questions.

The same five questions show up on almost every quote call. Here's how we answer them.

How long until I can park on it?

Light passenger vehicle at 7 days. Full load (loaded truck, RV, heavy equipment) at 28 days. Concrete reaches roughly 70% of design strength at 7 days, 100% at 28 — it's a curve, not a switch.

Will it crack?

Honestly? Probably — but in the joints, where we want it to. Concrete shrinks ~⅛" per 10 ft as it cures. The job of the control joints is to give the shrinkage somewhere to go. Cracks outside the joints we cover under our 1-year workmanship warranty.

What's the price difference between broom finish and stamped?

Broom is the baseline. Stamped runs roughly 1.5–2× per square foot depending on pattern, color, and whether you want a release agent. For a typical 1,200 sqft driveway you're looking at $4–6K of premium for stamped over broomed.

Can you pour around mature trees?

Yes — and we do it constantly in Belle Meade and Forest Hills. We coordinate with an arborist on root-zone protection, hand-dig within drip lines, and adjust the form layout to keep the slab off critical roots. Plan an extra day in the schedule.

How far ahead do I need to book?

Spring & fall: 3–5 weeks. Summer: 2–3 weeks. Off-season (winter, weather permitting): often inside 7–10 days. Send the plan set as early as you can — that's what determines our pour calendar.
